ELVIS COSTELLO & THE ATTRACTIONS ~ GET HAPPY!!, 1980 original UK press F-Beat LP, $200 + S / H
I bought the 1st 7 album releases by Elvis Costello without blinking an eye! They were sooooo great (1977 - 1981). They were the "flip side" to the punk rock "noise", The Ramones, The Sex Pistols & The Clash were all great, but there is a virtue to melody & a great "hook" to songs! And Elvis II was "The King" of the "great hook", every LP was better than the one before, great songs on every one!! Then came "Almost Blue" (1981) where Elvis wanted to conquer C&W music, and that can't be done by an englishman. No other country can beat American Country & Western, it was a brave effort, but something happened after that, and for me, it wasn't the same afterward. Maybe the beat down Bonnie Bramlett smacked on Elvis after he insulted the great James Brown & Ray Charles in a Columbus, Ohio bar left some screws & bolts loose inside his head when he hit the floor! BAM!! But here, on his 4th album, Costello & The Attractions are positively "smokin' "! 20 great songs! This is the original 1980 UK pressing with the "fake imitation" ring-wear on front & back covers, the glossy cover & record are both M-, I still don't understand why(?) someone would want "fake" ring-wear on a cover?! NO seam or spine splits, NO cut-out markings, NO "real" ring-wear. The original, thick inner sleeve is VG++, a bit of staining (yellow / brownish spots).
